Dairy Land in Walterboro, South Carolina, estd. 1949

Want a great (cheap) stop for lunch or dinner on Interstate 95 in South Carolina? Try the Dairy Land. It’s just a short drive east of Interstate 95 in Walterboro, South Carolina. It’s exit 53.

On your way, you’ll pass what seems to be the world’s largest collection of firecrackers outside of China. Note: The neon sign arrow blinks on and off.

Founded in 1949, the place not only has great burgers, but it sells all sorts of low country food, like liver and gizzards. There was also something on the menu called cham, but were afraid to ask. The place, according to local Bernie Gahagan (who pulled into the restaurant driving a Buick Roadmaster) was a local favorite. It’s our favorite stop.
