USPTO Announces 2011 National Trademark Expo

ALEXANDRIA – The United States Patent and Trademark Office will host the 2011 National Trademark Expo on October 14-15 at the USPTO’s headquarters in Alexandria, Va.  The free two-day event is designed to educate the public about the value of trademarks in the global marketplace.

Exhibitors are invited to showcase their trademarks through educational exhibits.  This year, the Expo will highlight such themes as “Unusual Trademarks” and the “Evolution of Marks,” and will feature educational workshops for adults and children, exhibits of authentic and counterfeit goods, and costumed characters.

Space is limited, so owners of federally-registered trademarks who wish to participate in the Expo must submit an application.  The deadline for applications is June 15.

Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Brand recognition
  • Educational value of the proposed exhibit to enhance the public’s understanding of trademarks
  • Category diversity to ensure the Expo has a variety of trademarks represented

Applications will be reviewed by the National Inventors’ Hall of Fame on a rolling basis.  Those applicants who are selected to exhibit in the Expo will be notified by July 15.
