Briefly: USPTO Volunteers and Vacancies, Blackwatch Wins IT Contract

WASHINGTON – The United States Patent and Trademark Office is asking for volunteers to look at future research and changes to the online experience at the USPTO. Volunteers may participate in interviews, questionnaires, usability testing, and focus groups. The site work explored includes searching for patents or trademark information, applying for intellectual property protection, or registering for events. Volunteer here.

  • The USPTO awarded McLean, Virginia based Blackwatch International Corporation a 5-year, $68 million contract to provide “Enterprise Infrastructure Product Line Rapid Phase Production engineering, operations, and maintenance support” for the 13,000 plus Linux, Windows and Virtual servers across two data centers. Headquartered in McLean with locations and personnel in McClellan, California, Blackwatch contracts for IT in the fields of defense, national security and law enforcement. Blackwatch President Cliff Webster said that it presents a “significant opportunity for Blackwatch to enhance the services we provide to Federal organizations.”
  • There is a July 3, 2023 deadline for nominations for the USPTO’s upcoming vacancies on the Patent Public Advisory Committee and the Trademark Public Advisory Committee. The three-year term will begin December 1, 2023. Nominations must be postmarked or electronically submitted on or before July 3, 2023. Submission details are available in the Federal Register Notice titled Patent and Trademark Public Advisory Committees.
