Remembering Canoe By Dana Advertising

Some readers were discussing distinctive men’s colognes that were still around. One of the survivors (and a potent scent) is Canoe by Dana.

The brand was originally for women, but became a men’s brand in the 1970s in the United States. Below, a 1981 ad for the cologne. The ads had a memorable voiceover…C was for come on over, A for alone, N for now, O for OK, and E for etc. etc.

“Wear it. She’ll get the message.”

Below, the classic rubber raft ad.

Below, an earlier ad. Notice the pronunciation had changed, to CAN-O-EH, rather than Canoe.

The Dana company is still around, but a shadow of its former self. Below, another saucy one.
