Elsie the Cow Arrives at Wal-Mart

Borden is back, big time. We spotted a large Borden cheese display at the Osprey, Florida Wal-Mart on Tamiami Trail, and it made us want to learn more about how the Borden dairy brand is doing.

Borden is doing great. This is great news. Go to the website www.FriendsofElsie.com, and readers can learn about how the all-American farmer co-op, the Dairy Farmers of America, get the milk from 18,000 individual farms so that they can make Borden cheese. On the Friends of Elsie website, American farm families like the Pfeifers of Bucyrus, Ohio are profiled. It is a brilliant website, and watching it makes you happy to be American.

This year has seen a big push with Elsie, the Borden cow that appears on the cheese packages. In 2008, the cooperative launched the Friends of Elsie campaign, which has all the facts and history of Elsie the cow.

You can visit the grave of Elsie in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
