As America prepares for its 250th birthday, Greyhound is rolling out a patriotic new fleet celebrating the people, places and highways that have connected the country for generations.
The company, now part of Flix North America, announced the launch of its new “America 250 Fleet,” a collection of four specially wrapped buses that will travel major regional corridors throughout the United States during the anniversary celebration period.
Each coach carries a “From Sea to Shining Sea” livery featuring imagery inspired by American landscapes, open highways and coastal vistas. The campaign ties the Greyhound brand to themes of movement, accessibility and national connection — ideas long associated with the century-old carrier.

For many Americans, Greyhound occupies a strange place in cultural memory — instantly recognizable, yet often assumed to have faded away. While air travel, budget airlines and ride-sharing transformed transportation habits, Greyhound quietly continued operating one of the nation’s largest intercity transportation networks, particularly serving smaller cities and rural communities often overlooked by other carriers.
“From our national parks to historic cities to the communities that connect us, America is meant to be experienced up close,” said Kai Boysan, CEO of Flix North America, in the announcement.
The routes were selected to represent different regions of the country:
- Northeast: Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.
- Heartland: Chicago to Detroit
- South: Dallas to Atlanta
- West: Los Angeles to San Diego
The first commemorative bus entered service May 21 on the Philadelphia–Washington route, linking two cities central to American history. Additional buses will begin service in June.

The launch also underscores the continuing relevance of intercity bus travel in America, particularly in rural and underserved regions where buses remain one of the few affordable transportation options. Greyhound said the campaign is intended not only to celebrate the anniversary, but also to encourage broader participation in America 250 events and travel opportunities.
“For more than 100 years, Greyhound has helped Americans get where they need to go,” Boysan said. “As one of the most iconic names in American transportation, we’re proud to carry that legacy forward through the America 250 Fleet.”
Founded in 1914, Greyhound remains one of the most recognizable names in American travel, with its streamlined running dog logo and nationwide route network deeply tied to the history of interstate mobility. Since its acquisition by FlixMobility in 2021, the company has continued operating under the Greyhound brand while integrating into the broader Flix transportation network.
There’s also a broader branding challenge at work here: many Americans are surprised to learn Greyhound still exists at all.

The America 250 initiative arrives as brands across transportation, hospitality and tourism prepare commemorative campaigns tied to the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration in 2026.
In that sense, the America 250 Fleet is more than a patriotic livery exercise. It’s also a reminder that one of America’s most enduring travel brands never actually left the station.
