NEW YORK — Bergdorf Goodman is marking its 125th anniversary this year with special collections from more than 100 brands, anniversary windows, a new book and events at its Fifth Avenue store.
The New York retailer was founded in 1901 and is still located at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. The company began as an atelier and developed into a luxury retailer known for its relationships with designers, brands and customers.
For its anniversary, Bergdorf Goodman has partnered with more than 100 brands on more than 850 styles and special products. Participating brands include Akris, Alaïa, Michael Kors Collection, Libertine, Schiaparelli, Roger Vivier, Manolo Blahnik, Brioni, Brunello Cucinelli, Kiton, Creed and Verdura.
Some of the anniversary collections draw on the store’s history. Akris is offering evening pieces based on archive designs. Alaïa is referencing a 1982 Bergdorf Goodman show. Michael Kors Collection is marking both the retailer’s 125th anniversary and the designer’s 45th anniversary with a day-to-night capsule. Libertine is offering pieces depicting the Fifth Avenue building and its grand foyer chandelier. Schiaparelli is offering collector’s pieces, while Roger Vivier is introducing a 10-piece capsule collection that includes a crystal-encrusted Flower Strass bag with 125 stones.
The retailer’s Fifth Avenue windows have also been redesigned for the anniversary. The women’s and men’s windows feature historical imagery and a lavender color scheme, along with fall fashion.

Bergdorf Goodman also commissioned Very Bergdorf, a book published this fall by Assouline with an introduction by Wendy Goodman. The book traces the retailer’s history through more than 80 moments and includes contributions from fashion figures.

The anniversary program includes digital conversations with stylist Kate Young, designer Michael Kors, actress Candice Bergen, and Rachel Scott, creative director of Diotima and Proenza Schouler.
Bergdorf Goodman held an anniversary celebration at the store Sept. 9. Attendees included Chanel Iman, Fern Mallis, Isaac Mizrahi, Jason Wu, Michael Kors, Nicky Hilton, Padma Lakshmi, Prabal Gurung, Rachel Zoe, Tina Leung and Wes Gordon, among others. Singer-songwriter Ravyn Lenae performed at the event.
